Deck 8: Technology-Based Training Methods
1
Explain how technology has changed the learning environment.
Technology in general has a positive impact on the work environment. Technology not only ease the work for its employees, but also helps them organize accordingly. Now-a-days everything from payroll to inventory in managed with well implemented technology in place.
Similarly, technology has allowed the organizations to make the learning environment more dynamic for their employees. Technology allows the users to have great interactions between instructors and learners, and allows the users to access the learning needs from different geographical locations. The delivery of content is primarily done through technology such as online learning, simulations, iPad, etc. Technology has made learning more fun, and is targeted to reach large audience at a time.
2
What types of learning outcomes are best suited for mobile learning? Explain.
Mobile learning:
M-learning is a form of distance education, which allows the users of personal electronic devices to learn concepts through social and content interactions. Individuals use mobile phones, tablets, and other electronic devices to undergo formal or informal learning by having access over the material available online. It provides the convenient means to access the information virtually anywhere at any time.
In general, learning outcomes are the benefits which the learners achieve at the end of a course or a program. The learning outcome within an organization, which best suits the mobile learning are as follows:
• Employee engagement: Mobile learning courses offered within the organization is designed to be small and easily accessed. This allows the individual to have an overview over the information being provided, and retain most of the information made available.
• Continuous learning: Allows having continuous learning with access over work related articles. Individuals get to undergo informal or formal learning through online courses.
• Dominant knowledge: Individuals will have knowledge leapfrog over information, as information can be grabbed even at the busiest of work schedule.
Mobile learning provides a means to deliver online course, and improve the competencies of the individuals within the workplace. It integrates and links individuals to learning references, and make sure that required skills to accomplish the organization goals are attained in an efficient and cost effective mode.
3
What are the differences between expert systems and electronic performance tools?
Training efforts are supported using technologies such as expert systems, and electronic support systems. These performance tools help the employees to receive learning through captured training materials, which will help them to understand the content even after failing to attend the sessions.
Differences between expert systems and electronic performance tools are as follows:
Expert systems allow the instructors to organize and apply their knowledge to specific problems while explaining the facts, figures and rules about a specific subject. Similarly, it helps the employees to understand the problems or take decisions when the current level exceeds their skills and knowledge.
Whereas, electronic performance tools allow the instructors and employees to capture, store, and distribute the content to achieve the required level of performance within a limited time frame, and with minimum support from other people.
