Explain why placing zeros after any digits to the right of the decimal point does not change the value of a number. (See Objective.)
Add decimals. To add, write the numbers so that the decimal points are aligned, which causes the place values to be aligned. As with adding whole numbers, add decimal numbers in columns, beginning on the right and moving to the left.
You may wish to add trailing zeros to the right of the decimal point so that each number being added has the same number of digits to the right of the decimal point. This does not change the number and can make it easier to keep track of things.
